The Americans with Disability Act, or ADA, was signed into law on July 26, 1990 and is modeled after earlier landmark laws that prohibited discrimination on the basis of race and gender.
The ADA covers a wide range of disabilities, from physical conditions to learning disorders, and ensures that people with disabilities are given equal opportunity in life. The ADA also addresses access to the workplace, places of public accommodation, and commercial facilities.
